Human cats: An Egyptian Myth Of The Mutant Twins

 

Upper Egypt as we mentioned earlier in the past article " the caller" , is the land of magic and mysteries , the land of history and secrets inherited from the great ancient Egyptians, and it's the perfect place for all the horror seekers around the world to visit, as the stories you'll hear when you get there are hard to take , and you may not be brave enough to sleep at night after you hear it. 

In this article you'll hear a story only exists in Upper Egypt , so sit back, relax, and enjoy the myth.

Why ancient Egyptians worshiped Cats 

 

Cats were sacred creatures back in ancient Egypt, Egyptians called it "Bastet '' which means " the Goddess of tenderness and kindness" and they believed that cats bring them good luck and expel negative energy out of the house.

Killing a cat was a murder, and the criminal who did it shall be sentenced to death . 

And when a cat dies the whole family would shave their eyebrows as a sign of grief, and they would mummify her by wrapping her in linen and applying rice and perfume to her body , and they put milk and mice beside her body.

Human cats, what are they 

In Upper Egypt people believe that when twins are asleep their souls leave their bodies and transform into tailless cats. 

And they sneak into neighbors' houses and eat their food , and everyone knows that it's a mutant cat not a real one , and that's why no one's allowed to hurt a cat there . Because anything that happens to the cat will happen to the child. 

An upper Egyptian lady claims that one of her twin brothers transforms into a cat at night , and he goes into people's houses to eat , and when he wakes up he tells his family all that happened in the house he went to, and when his mother asks the neighbors if all he said was true, they admit it was actually true, that's when all the village started calling him "the cat boy".

If you harm the cat, you harm the child 

A mother telling her son's story, she said " he was sleeping next to his twin brother, and he woke up in the morning throwing up and screaming, we rushed to the hospital and the doctor told us that it's food poisoning" , when she asked her son about it he said that while he was in their neighbor's house as a cat last night , he ate a lot of meat, so the mother went to the neighbor and asked her if she had poisoned meat last night, and the woman told her it was meant to kill the mice , since then the whole village believed that kid's story and they became extremely careful with cats. 

Another lady telling the story of her deceased daughter, she said " my daughter died in her sleep for no reason but when the doctor saw her body he said it's like she was hit by a car as all her body was bruised , the same day as we were on our way back from the funeral we saw a dead cat on the side of the road and she was hit by a car, I knew it was my daughter".

A study was made on Human cats

(Dr Nahla Imam) is a Researcher in folklore and popular beliefs at the Academy of Arts made a study on "human cats" She collected the largest number of twins and wrote down their stories and compared them with the stories of their family members and neighbors to investigate facts and find out if they were lying , and to her surprise , their stories were unified and there is no manipulation, and she extracted many points from this study such as: 

1. She discovered that the mutant kid is drawn to certain types of food, if he doesn't eat them as a cat he'll become ill, that's why the mothers should prepare a delicious meal of their kid's choice before they go to sleep because that may prevent the kid from transforming.

2. She also discovered that all the mutant kids in her study can speak cat language and they decide with each other the shape and color of the cat they will transform into , and they all meet at night as a big group of cats both Males and females and they walk with each other all across the village.

3. Never wake the twins from their sleep or they may die , as their bodies become very weak while they're having an out of body experience, and trying to make the body respond while the soul is out may cut the attachment between the two, which leads to death. 

4. Mostly only one twin transforms into a cat and tries to make the other twin do the same but some won't like it and they'd rather stay home at night.
